Graham says Zelenksy should resign after White House blowup

The White House meeting between Donald Trump, JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Zelensky clearly did not go as initially planned.

There has been criticism on both sides of the aisle, with some Republicans, including Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) defending Trump and calling for the resignation of Zelensky.

Off the Rails

JD Vance appeared to go into this meeting with the intent of calling out Zelensky for having “campaigned” with Kamala Harris and steamrolling Biden for his aid.

After Vance and Zelensky traded barbs, Trump stepped in, stating, “You are in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel. We’re going to feel very good. We’re going to feel very good and very strong. You’re right now not in a very good position. You’ve allowed yourself to be in a very bad position…

“You’re gambling with World War III. And what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country that’s backed you far more than a lot of people say they should.”

Vance fired back at Zelensky again, upset that he appeared in PA with Harris during the election season. After hinting that Zelensky was not grateful for the aid he had received from the United States, he  stated, “You went to Pennsylvania and campaigned for the opposition… Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who’s trying to save your country.”

Graham Calls Meeting ‘Disaster’

Graham changes direction like the Arkansas weather, so it was not surprising to see him come out and slam the results of the meeting.

Graham, on the blowout, stated, “Devastated. Everything I … have been working for to try to get a new relationship with the United States around a critical minerals deal beneficial to both of us was completely obliterated today.”

He later added, “The question for me is, ‘Is he redeemable in the eyes of Americans?’ Most Americans witnessing what they saw today would not want Zelensky to be their business partner, including me, and I’ve been to Ukraine nine times since the war started.”

His comments were taken as a bit of a rebuke of both Vance and Trump, as well as Zelensky, but Graham was not done yet.

Time to Resign

Graham would eventually hold a presser at the White House, lauding Trump and Vance for calling out Zelensky, even calling for the Ukrainian president to step down.

Graham told the media, "I've never been more proud of the president. I was very proud of J.D. Vance standing up for our country. He [Zelensky] either needs to resign and send somebody over that we can do business with or he needs to change.”

He later added, “What I saw in the Oval Office was disrespectful and I don't know if we can ever do business with Zelensky again.”

A lot of people were horrified by what they saw, but I was not one of them. Mind you, I have been quite open about the fact this never should have happened in public, but I also think Zelensky has been overly cocky and needed to get knocked down a few rungs. He learned very quickly that he has zero leverage here, and if he thinks the EU is going to pony up, he has another thing coming. To date, the United States has supplied more aid to Ukraine than all other countries combined. If it were not for the United States, Ukraine would have been conquered by Russia a long time ago.
