Is CNN actually defending Republicans?
I have been known to tear into the mainstream media from time to time, especially CNN.
Now, however, I find myself in the unbelievable position of actually giving them some props.
Over the last few weeks, I have seen reporting that has stunned me, as they are actually calling out Democrats over this shutdown.
Dana Bash
First up is Dana Bash, whom I have gone after on more than one occasion, but she actually did her job, at least for a few seconds, when House Minority Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.) blamed the shutdown on Trump and Republicans.
He stated, "Donald Trump and Republicans shut the government down and refuse to reopen it. Donald Trump has spent the last 35 days, more time on the golf course, more time talking to Hamas, and more time talking to the Chinese Communist Party than to Democrats on Capitol Hill, who represent half the country.
“And they continue to stubbornly refuse to address the healthcare crisis that they‘ve created."
Bash shot back, "Mr. Leader, you guys are voting no on opening the government. Not Republicans. I know you’re asking for specific things, and it’s much more complicated than that."
Jake Tapper
Jake Tapper had a horrible case of TDS during Trump’s first administration, and his coverage of Biden was horrific. When he was applauded for “Original Sin,” I went after him mercilessly for doing reporting he should have been doing during the administration.
What was worse for me on this front is that the information he used in his “research” was the very same information people like myself had been writing for two years!
But, during this shutdown, Tapper has repeatedly called out Democrats, often to their faces, for causing the shutdown. He even informed them that historically, the media blames the party for not voting to support the continuing resolution (CR), which, in this case, is the Democrat Party.
When Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) blamed the GOP, Tapper shot back, "Congresswoman, this is also a choice by Senate Democrats to not vote to open the government."
Kaitlan Collins
Next is CNN's Kaitlan Collins, who had some contentious interviews with Trump over the years, including a town hall event, for which liberals went after her.
While the town hall was a complete and utter joke, and completely biased, she actually defended giving Trump the platform, responding to her critics, "Actually what that moment showed was there was still a lot of support for Donald Trump, and I think it was jarring for some people to remember that, maybe, and to see that. But that was reality, and our job is not to sanitize things and say, 'Well, this is what you want the narrative to be' or ‘This is what you want to happen.’
"Our job is just to cover it as it happens and to show you what that was, and I think that town hall showed people that my job is not to take down Trump. I'm a reporter and an anchor."
I don’t want to get too wishy-washy over Collins, however, because I remember that event, and she was in Trump’s face the entire time. But still, at least she defended Trump’s right to be heard. We are far from where we need to be with our mainstream media, but the fact that CNN anchors are calling out Dems on live TV, well, I would consider that to be progress.
