Johnson worried about Trump impeachment if GOP loses control of the House
I believe reality is starting to settle in for Republicans, especially in the House. For us to be talking about Democrats impeaching Trump if the GOP loses the House is one thing, but when Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) starts to do it, I worry he has run out of other talking points.
This week, that became his talking point, as the GOP knows if something doesn’t change, bad things are in store for Trump come 2027.
Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI)
Thanedar tried really hard to get his 15 minutes of fame at Trump’s expense, only months after Trump took office.
I would wager to say few people in this country even knew who this man was outside of his district.
Then he announced impeachment articles against Trump in the spring, but his effort quickly fizzled out.
Thanedar pulled his bill, claiming he was waiting to add more charges to Trump, and that he would try again at a later date.
Rep. Al Green (D-TX)
Green is a notorious impeachment presenter, as he tried to hit Trump multiple times during his first term and has threatened to hit Trump with an impeachment almost immediately after Trump took office.
Green did it again in mid-December, but his effort also failed, 140-237, with leadership failing to support the move to unseat Trump because they knew it would never pass with the GOP still holding the majority.
Democrat leadership stated, “Impeachment is a sacred constitutional vehicle designed to hold a corrupt executive accountable for abuse of power, breaking the law and violating the public trust.
“The effort traditionally requires a comprehensive investigative process, the collection and review of thousands of documents, an exacting scrutiny of the facts, the examination of dozens of key witnesses, Congressional hearings, sustained public organizing and the marshaling of the forces of democracy to build a broad national consensus.”
Warning
Speaker Johnson is now pulling out the impeachment card himself to try to rally everyone behind Trump because he knows the moment Dems get control, those impeachment articles are going to be flying.
Johnson stated, “Everything, as has been said here, everything is on the line in the midterms of 2026, and we have much more to do.
“But if we lose the House majority, the radical Left, as you’ve already heard, is going to impeach President Trump. They’re going to create absolute chaos, we cannot let that happen, and I know you won’t, I know you won’t.”
I have been saying this forever, but as I noted above, it’s a different world when Johnson must resort to this to rally people to back Trump. His message should be about policy, not panic, and that is how this message comes off from the Speaker. But he is right, and we have all known that since Trump was re-elected. 2027 will be 2019 all over again.
