Nashville Democrat hopeful caught on camera saying she hates the city
If you are going to run for office in any city, you'd better love it.
Well, a Democrat hopeful that would be running for office in a Nashville, TN, district just got caught on video saying the exact opposite.
Not only does Aftyn Behn claim she hates the city, but also country music, a mainstay in that part of the country.
The Special Election
Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) cut and ran on July 20, 2025, creating an opening for Democrats to steal a seat from the GOP.
On December 2, we are going to see Republican Matt Van Epps take on Democrat Aftyn Behn for the seat.
Green had a cushy job in the private sector all lined up, but rather than retire and let someone come in during the normal voting cycle, he claimed he was needed to ensure the passage of the big, beautiful bill.
Once that legislation was passed, he vacated the seat, setting up this special election.
Low Voter Turnout
This is generally a red seat, which his why I was furious that Green chose to retire when he did. I shredded him when he announced he was leaving right after the election because of how dodgy special elections can be.
My fears were proven true during the special election primary race, where turnout was down by about 75%.
Only 67,000 votes were cast, and Behn fell only 5,000 votes short of Van Epps in her primary race. That is far too close for comfort for my liking.
The general election is on December 2, so we are going to need the RNC to get off its butt and start doing some work to make sure we don’t lose this seat.
Caught on Tape
Behn may have just been taken out of the race after a video popped up online of her trashing Nashville and country music.
In the video, she stated, “I hate the city, I hate the bachelorettes, I hate the pedal taverns, I hate country music, I hate all of the things that make Nashville apparently an ‘it’ city to the rest of the country. But I hate it.”
She gave that answer during a podcast interview in 2020, so my guess is that she is going to get inundated with questions about her answer that day right up until people head to the polls to decide who their next representative will be.
The way things are going these days, you just never know. But I can tell you this: if the GOP loses this race, blame the RNC and Mark Green for being selfish. This would have been a walkover during the 2024 cycle, but now we are in a dogfight.
