Pelosi faces backlash on social media regarding Bob Weir tribute
Earlier this month, the death of one of the co-founders of the Grateful Dead, Bob Weir, was announced.
A tribute event was recently held, where Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) paid tribute as a self-professed Dead Head. Her choice of attire and speech were then mocked mercilessly online.
He’s gone
Weir was not only one of the original founding members of the Grateful Dead, but it is safe to say the group’s success was anchored in his talents.
His guitar playing and songwriting were key to shaping the band’s sound that captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world.
Weir had been diagnosed with cancer over the summer, and his body gave up the fight last week, with his family announcing his death.
While his family made the announcement on January 10, it did not go into detail as to when and where Weir passed away.
Remembering a Legend
The Dead were not really my thing, but I have no problem recognizing a legend within his genre, and that is what Weir was, and the tributes came pouring out after his death.
Andy Cohen, the prominent TV personality and producer, stated, “Nobody forgets their first Dead show and mine was in 1986 in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin. Bob was just a speck on the stage from where I was, but man was his voice fierce and smooth.
“Bob checked out but his music is going to live gloriously forever, and so will he. One of the absolute coolest and best to ever do it.”
Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio added, “Bobby was completely allergic to compliments in the most endearing way. I’d say, ‘Man, that guitar riff you were doing on that song sounded really killer’ and he’d respond, ‘Well, I’m sure I’ll f**k it up next time.’ I loved that about him.”
Pelosi stumbles
Pelosi’s magenta outfit brought ridicule as soon as she appeared on stage, but her speech was once again the topic of discussion, as she continued to struggle with her words.
For instance, at one point, she stated, "Bobby Weir was not just a magician, musician – a magician too – he was a force of nature.”
Rather than keeping the moment about Weir and the Grateful Dead, Pelosi turned political, telling the crowd, "[Weir] gave me this sign, and I'll show it today, because I said Bobby really loved democracy, he loved our country. You know what he wanted everybody to do? Vote!"
Many of the comments concentrated on Pelosi’s slurred speech, once again suggesting that she was drunk while appearing in public. I think it is safe to say that most of the country is ready for Pelosi to step aside and call it a day.
