Pelosi pounces on Trump-Zelensky meeting at White House
The world is abuzz right now over the meeting between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky.
There are mixed reviews about what happened, but, as expected, Democrats pounced on the opportunity to blast Trump over the meeting.
Off the Rails
There was tension in the air right from the start, as JD Vance clearly had a bone to pick with Zelensky over his appearance in Pennsylvania with Kamala Harris during the election.
Vance stated, “You went to Pennsylvania and campaigned for the opposition… Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who’s trying to save your country.”
Donald Trump had also ripped him, stating, “You are in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel. We’re going to feel very good. We’re going to feel very good and very strong. You’re right now not in a very good position. You’ve allowed yourself to be in a very bad position…
“You’re gambling with World War III. And what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country that’s backed you far more than a lot of people say they should.”
Pelosi Pounces
I think most people would agree that this never should have happened in public, but I have also stated that Zelensky needed to be knocked down a few rungs.
The Dems don’t see it that way, with Pelosi stating, “It would’ve been a show of strength for the President of the United States to bring the elected leader of Ukraine to the Oval Office and engage with him in a dignified way.
“But you would never know that after President Trump’s shameful display. Putin must be overjoyed with today’s theatrics.
“Following the U.S. vote in alignment with Russia at the United Nations this week, a disturbing pattern has emerged that is contrary to America’s longstanding support of democracy around the world.”
Not Everyone Agrees
Senator Graham was among those that was initially horrified by the meeting. He stated, “Devastated. Everything I … have been working for to try to get a new relationship with the United States around a critical minerals deal beneficial to both of us was completely obliterated today.”
However, he later held a press conference at the White House, stating, "I've never been more proud of the president. I was very proud of J.D. Vance standing up for our country. He [Zelensky] either needs to resign and send somebody over that we can do business with or he needs to change.”
He later added, “What I saw in the Oval Office was disrespectful and I don't know if we can ever do business with Zelensky again.”
I am really not sure what Zelensky’s next move should be. He clearly needs to rectify this situation with Trump, but instead, he already ran to the EU trying to get them to apply pressure to Trump. Zelensky nor the EU seem to understand how Trump works, as this will only stiffen his stance and make him angrier. So, unless the EU plans on backing the rest of this war, Zelensky needs to get back to the White House with hat in hand.
