SC and Honduras elections fall in Trump’s favor
Elections have not been good news for Trump or Republicans this year, but the cycle has finally been broken. Trump’s preferred candidate in Honduras has finally been named the winner.
Additionally, the three special elections in the South Carolina state legislature all went to Republicans.
Big Win
When the early results were announced in Honduras, Trump was concerned that some games were going to be played to flip the election against Tito Asfura, who had Trump’s backing.
Trump had posted, "Looks like Honduras is trying to change the results of their Presidential Election. If they do, there will be hell to pay!"
When the election was finalized this week, Asfura posted, "Honduras: I am ready to govern. I will not let you down.”
Congress President Luis Redondo of the LIBRE party, however, appears to be ready to fight the results, having responded, "This is completely outside the law. It has no value."
A Sweep
Republicans also took a sweep in the special elections for the state legislature in South Carolina.
The key seat was that of state Rep. RJ May, who recently pleaded guilty in a child sexual scandal case.
John Lastinger, a local pastor, defeated J. Chuck Hightower by nearly 25 points, so the race was not quite what some thought it would b,e considering the scandal.
Republicans also won the two additional seats, which led to the S.C. GOP bragging, but they were a bit misleading.
False Bravado
The wins are great news, but the local GOP had posted, “Republicans won all three special elections and that success belongs to the voters who showed up. While Democrats hoped low turnout would hand them a win, Republicans proved them wrong at the ballot box. We didn’t sit this one out. We showed up, voted, and protected conservative leadership across South Carolina.”
The tone of that post makes you think voters turned out in droves for the GOP, which was not the case, and that they clobbered Democrats across the board, which was not the case.
The only contested race was for the May seat, as the other two opponents were uncontested in their elections.
This is exactly what I have warned about in the past. They are creating a false sense of security when they should be doing the complete opposite. The 2026 cycle is going to be very difficult to win without everyone being all-in. You guys know the history of this by now, so I won’t rehash it, but believe me, three wins in deep red districts are nothing to make us feel as though we should be comfortable in 2026 or 2028.
