Schumer taking fire for ‘Go Bills’ comment amid Brown University shooting

Sometimes, you just have to wonder how these people ever got elected to office because they are clearly lacking common sense. That is the thought that went through my mind when I read the comments made by Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on his press conference on the Brown University mass shooting and the attack at Bondi Beach.

His chant of “Go Bills” did not sit well with anyone.

The Shootings

The Bondi Beach attack was horrific, with an alleged father and son team opening fire on beachgoers in Sydney, Australia.

A total of 15 people were killed when the two shooters allegedly opened fire on the crowd, only stopped because of the heroic actions of bystanders.

The Brown University mass shooting was another cowardly attack on Saturday, with two people losing their lives.

Thus far, the police have only released a grainy photo of a person of interest, as nobody has been taken into custody for the shooting as of this report.

Schumer’s Statement

Senator Schumer made an announcement after the shootings, stating that “sickening events have become far too normal.”

He also stated, “The Jewish people have been collectively demonized — increasingly so in the last few years — and this tragedy in Sydney shows the abject danger of letting antisemitic rhetoric and action go unchecked.

“Our collective humanity demands that we come together, no matter our race or religion, and forcefully rebuke the forces that have led to this moment and left our society so divided.”

That was not the issue. What was the issue was in how Schumer initially addressed the media, stating, “First, of course, as I always say, no matter what — ‘Go Bills!’ They beat the Patriots today. It’s a big deal.”

The Outrage

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) immediately responded, “Retire. Immediately.” Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) added, “This is unbelievable.”

He continued, “You claim to be the most senior elected Jew in history but want to talk about Football? When my friend sent this [to] me, I told him it couldn’t be real. Disgraceful.”

There were more comments along the same lines, but you get the idea here. This was inappropriate and absolutely horrific in terms of the moment.

Will Democrats call him out for it? I have seen both Republicans and Democrats lash out at Trump for his comments in the wake of the murder of the Reiners, and this is right along those lines. Equal treatment… that is all we are asking for here.
