Trump hesitant to send money to NYC if Mamdani wins election

Get ready for the far-left to start crying about the bad orange man again.

This weekend, Donald Trump appeared on “60 Minutes,” and he was asked about his feud with Zohran Mamdani. Trump lobbed a bombshell his way, stating that if the socialist wins the election, he will have a really hard time sending federal money to New York City.

Getting ready to flee

As I am writing this report, New Yorkers are getting ready to head to the polls to vote for their next mayor.

Andrew Cuomo has tightened up the race, which I will get more into in just a second, but still looks like an easy win for Mamdani.

So, it was no surprise to see polling about how New Yorkers would react to the win, and it is not good in terms of the big money earners in the city.

According to the poll, roughly three million New Yorkers are definitely going or likely to leave if Mamdani wins, and there is a significant percentage of people making more than $250,000 a year in that group.

It’s a problem

As soon as CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell mentioned his name, Trump corrected her, "Communist, not socialist. He’s far worse than a socialist."

When she asked Trump what he would do if Mamdani won, Trump responded, "It’s gonna be hard for me as the president to give a lot of money to New York. Because if you have a communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending there.

“So I don’t know that he’s won, and I’m not a fan of Cuomo one way or another, but if it’s gonna be between a bad Democrat and a communist, I’m gonna pick the bad Democrat all the time, to be honest with you."

As we have seen before, legally, it is all but impossible to block the money from going. Trump may be able to freeze money for a few months, but ultimately, it will wind up in New York.

How is it looking?

Mamdani has enjoyed a double-digit lead throughout this race, but there was a wildcard out there that was hurting him, that being the undecided voter, and there were enough that if Cuomo won them all, he could possibly still win this race.

The latest AtlasIntel survey now has Mamdani at 43.9%, Cuomo at 39.4%, and Sliwa still hanging on for dear life at 15.5%. Sliwa’s support has collapsed, as several people who had endorsed him prior have since backed Cuomo.

That, and the undecided vote thus far has all fallen to Cuomo, with there still being 1.2% remaining undecided. Trump even weighed in, posting, “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!”

I don’t want to give anyone false hope because this is the first and only poll that I have seen that has the race this tight. The Beacon Research survey had Mamdani at +16, as did the Marist poll. So, either this latest poll is a massive outlier, or Cuomo’s momentum has suddenly turned this race into a coin flip. I would love to be more optimistic, but I just don’t see any way Cuomo is within sniffing distance of Mamdani when the votes are counted. Had Sliwa dropped out, I honestly think he would have won this race, but no way Cuomo can win a three-way race. And if I am wrong, I will gladly eat a big plate of crow.
