Trump sets Dems and media off over announcement of Triumphal Arch
Donald Trump loves to see his name up in the clouds, and after announcing a “go” for his latest project, Democrats and the media are having a fit. First, Trump put his name on the U.S. Institute of Peace. Then the announcement of the ballroom, followed by Trump’s name being added to the Kennedy Center.
The detonator for this bomb was that Trump announced that the Triumphal Arch will begin construction within a few months.
The Kennedy Center
The real outrage took place when the Kennedy Center board announced that Trump had been added “unanimously” by the board.
As it turns out, the board, which was all hand-picked by Trump, changed the rules for its quorum so former officials, who had a vote in matters such as this, could no longer cast a vote.
There are legalities to this as well because the Kennedy Center is considered a monument to former President John F. Kennedy. That being the case, a name change cannot happen without an act of Congress.
The outrage seeped into the acts that had already been booked, as the Kennedy Center has been inundated with cancellations since Trump’s name was added to the marquee. Not only was it added, but Trump’s name was put in front of Kennedy’s.
The Arch
For some reason, Trump believes we need an arch in DC to mimic the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
The project is reportedly privately financed by Trump donors, but I don’t think that is the point that is getting everyone upset.
When Trump was asked when construction would start, he responded, "It hasn’t started yet. It starts sometime in the next two months. It’ll be great. Everyone loves it. They love the ballroom too. But they love the Triumphal Arch."
There has not been a location revealed, but Trump has shown mockups, and it looks like it will be somewhere around the Lincoln Memorial.
Remove Him
By the time Trump leaves office, there is the potential for his name to also adorn the new ballroom, and that is just not sitting well with the left right now. (For the record, I believe we need the ballroom as part of the White House complex.)
MS NOW contributor Sam Stein says Dems will take care of all of this once they take back the White House, stating, “Of course, all of this is going to be reversed as soon as a Democratic president takes office.
“I have to imagine that any time the power is going to change, they’re going to say, okay, we’re going to take that name off of the Kennedy Center, not exactly something we want. And so it’s all for short-term gain, and it makes you wonder why he’s doing it. And the only obvious answer to that is that it’s feeding his very sizable ego.”
Call me crazy, but it is almost like Trump is trying to cement his place in history all on his own. I am not trying to be overly critical, but is it really a monument if you create it and name it? It is coming off as a vanity play by Trump, and it is even starting to exhaust some conservatives. I think Trump needs to back off on these construction projects and continue to focus on bringing prices down. With the way the media works, they will downplay whatever he does on the economy and present all these projects to be top of mind. It’s just a bad look for the GOP and the administration.
