US GAO warns about synthetic drugs from Mexico
For years, drugs have been pouring over the border from Mexico, but the game has changed over the last decade or so. Now, synthetic drugs are all the rage, and they are far more dangerous.
While Democrats like to pretend that is not the case at our southern border, a recent U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report says otherwise.
Drug Overdoses
A recent NIH report regarding overdoses in this country was not good news.
In 2022, there were 107,941 drug overdoses in this country. Then in 2023, there were more than 105,000 overdoses.
During that span, more than 146,000 of those deaths were attributed to synthetic drugs.
This was a problem that President Trump hoped to address with his strikes against these alleged drug boats out of Venezuela.
Drug Seizures
The sad reality is that this would have been much worse were it not for the efforts being made at the border by law enforcement.
The amount of drugs seized at the border is usually a direct reflection of the volume coming over.
For instance, in 2021, there was more than 11,000 pounds of fentanyl seized at the border, but that number went up to 14,700 in 2022, and a shocking 27,000 pounds in 2023.
As Biden’s border became easier to cross, the efforts increased. So, if we had 27,000 pounds captured, just imagine how much made it over the border to drug dealers.
It’s a Serious Problem
The recent report by the GOA will not be welcomed by Democrats, as it will hurt their narrative about keeping the borders open and allowing all these illegals to remain in the country.
In part, the 67-page report stated, “According to DEA’s 2024 drug threat assessment and a nonprofit entity report, TCOs may obtain precursor chemicals through several channels: (1) directly from suppliers in China; (2) through intermediaries in the U.S., such as reshipping companies or complicit companies or individuals; and (3) via brokers who work independently of any TCO.”
If further stated, “Mexican TCOs use diverse business strategies to directly or indirectly source fentanyl and methamphetamine precursor chemicals, primarily from China-based chemical companies.”
When you see these numbers and read these reports, just remember who it was that opened our borders up to this mess, and remember who locked them back down and started blowing boats out of the water. There are two sides to this war, and right now, Democrats are definitely on the wrong one.
