YouTuber who reported on MN fraud says he is getting death threats

Some people in this country take politics way too seriously, and Nick Shirley is finding that out the hard way. Shirley is the journalist who created the YouTube video showing daycare centers in Minnesota that appeared to be fraud magnets.

Now he says he and his family are receiving death threats.

Pushing Back

The Shirley video exploded on YouTube, getting more than two million hits in just a couple of days.

You can complain about his style of journalism, but the story itself was legit, as it was documented in a November feature piece in the New York Times.

Nobody challenged the piece in the Times, but CNN and CBS News immediately did everything they could to try to debunk Shirley’s video.

The CNN version was my favorite, having called around to several daycare centers, but then trying to claim it debunked his story after only one business owner picked up the phone.

Damaged Businesses

Soon after that video blew up, Manager Nasrulah Mohamed of the Nokomis Daycare Center claimed, “We saw that, unfortunately, we saw that there was important documentation, enrollment of the children and also employee documentation that was gone. There were also checkbooks that were ripped from our, check papers that were from our book.”

He added, “This is devastating news and we don’t know why this is targeting our Somali community as one video made by a specific individual made this all happen.

“We’ve been receiving hateful messages through our voice notes threatening us since the past couple of days including one that happened yesterday morning when the break-in, after the break-in.”

Now, this was not one of the centers featured in the video, but it is in Minnesota, and it is Somali-owned. However, the local police initially claimed that when the incident was reported, the business never said anything about the records being taken.

Threatening His Life

I was about to say it is hard to believe someone would threaten someone else’s life over a news story, but then I remembered they killed Charlie Kirk for offering to debate people.

Which brings us to the threats against Shirley, who stated, "They are saying, like, ‘Kirked — you’re going to be Kirked. You’re going to be Kirked.’ That’s what they’re saying — like, you’re next. You’ll be the next [Charlie] Kirk.”

He continued that they were threatening his sister and other family members over the story.

I just really wish people would take a breath over this and allow the FBI to handle it, and that is on both sides. If there is more fraud, I am sure Patel will root it out. The conservative cause is not being helped by threatening these businesses, and Shirley surely does not deserve to have his or his family members threatened over that story. The temperature needs to be turned down a few degrees ASAP.
